About Us
Sarah Segal
I bring to my work an unwavering presence to the people I am with. I listen to understand, and help you to do the same. Adversity is a place for new beginnings, to bring about long wanted changes within oneself or one’s circumstances. Mediation work and conflict coaching is the balance of my heart and head and uses the best of my strengths.
I have worked primarily in Canada, as well as Australia and the Middle East. I have supported people through adversity in a variety of professional roles over the past two decades. I am a skilled group facilitator and understand the needs of child development, living in a family, workplace challenges, and the demands of change. I am well versed in peaceful separations and supporting others to navigate conflict in ways that promote growth and thriving.
I am from Vancouver Island with strong ties to Nanaimo. I mother two children, share life with a community of close friends, and practice yoga daily. My biggest passion is the sea. I swim long distances in the open waters which brings me closer to myself and nurtures my practice of staying present with what is in front of me.

I am a lifelong student of the human condition, with a deep interest in our patterns of thinking and learned beliefs. In truth, we are all the same. We all are born. We all will die. In between we seek love, safety, nourishment, growth and connection. I am a student of philosophy, ethics and Zen. To my life and my work as a mediator I bring a beginner’s mindset. I listen intently and communicate clearly and candidly. I value honesty, eloquence and communication in simple language. I ask smart and dumb questions and I value both in myself and others.
I was born and raised in Vancouver, BC, and have resided on Vancouver Island for most of my adult life. I have worked as a professional in diverse fields including arts management, law and agriculture. I’ve run a radio station, started a farmer’s market and a high-tech aquaponics farm, managed international touring artists and a law firm, acted as senior business advisor to a multi-billion dollar corporation, sat on numerous boards, produced several music albums, and published two books including a national bestseller.
What all my diverse occupations have in common is people. I work with people. I engage with and study people. I help people and am helped by them. My path led me to Hakomi therapy, a form of experiential, body centered counselling in which I worked through my childhood relationship with my absent father and single parent mother. I later began training as a Hakomi therapist, which I plan on completing as time allows. My path then brought me into the world of collaborative conflict resolution, mediation and coaching, which I came to understand I had already been practicing in my professional and personal life before my formal training, as well as grief counselling and end of life doula services. Mediation allows me to use all of who I am to effectively sit in other people’s fires and help them navigate back to calmer shores.
In my personal life, I enjoy sharing time and simple pleasures with friends, and I am an avid rock climber who serves the climbing community as President of the Mid Island Climbers Association.
